Methanosarcina rumen is an anaerobic Methanobacterium that produces methane gas in organisms that digest decaying organic matter. It is an endosymbiont that lives in the rumen, the first pouch of the alimentary canal, of animals called ruminants, such as sheep or cattle. So, these guys are the reason cow flatulence is destroying the ozone! (Ha, that was my lame attempt at a joke).
